Welcome to the Mountain Fiber Folk Cooperative!
Members of the Mountain Fiber Folk Cooperative host a unique shop & studio located in picturesque Montgomery Center, Vermont. We provide high quality products made from locally sourced natural fibers. Our collection of spinning and knitting fibers is provided by local farmers, who raise Llamas, Alpacas, Colored Angora and Cashmere goats, several breeds of sheep, and Angora bunnies. Spinners, weavers, knitters, and fiber artists find a delightful supply of materials among the hand-dyed locks, hand spun and mill spun yarns, and specially blended rovings. Inspiration awaits! The shop also offers a beautiful collection of locally made gifts. The “Folk” are always available to assist you with selections or help you with your project. Come in to browse, or sit and knit, spin or needle-felt in our cozy shop.
Who are the Mountain Fiber Folk?
About fifteen years ago an eclectic group of “villagers” gathered to learn how to spin on a drop spindle. It wasn’t long before several members bought wheels, many more learned to knit, and the group expanded to include others who found joy in working with natural fibers. The co-op was founded! Happily, members include local farmers who provide most of the fleeces used in our products. Each skein of hand spun yarn or multi-fiber roving is created with care and is truly a local Vermont item!
About the Fibers
We use high quality local mohair, wool, angora, and alpaca and llama fibers. We love to spin these fibers by hand, either alone or in carefully selected blends. Our yarns provide fiber enthusiasts with beautiful varieties from which to choose - from the most practical and sturdy long wools to the most luxurious baby alpaca and fine wool blends imaginable!
